About the Artist

Kristy Worthen, age 25, has been winning awards for her artwork since preschool. When Kristy was five years old she received her first award for winning the coloring contest at Roper's preschool in Little Rock. Kristy was awarded "Most Creative Art Student", at age sixteen, while attending Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock. That award solidified Kristy's decision and determination to become a professional artist.

In 2002 a piece of Kristy's artwork titled "PUZZLE PIECES OF LIFE" was exhibited at the United Nations Building in New York, as part of an exhibit by the Survivors Art Foundation. The SAF also asked Kristy to collaborate with other artists on making a flag that was flown September 11, 2002, the first anniversary of 9-11, to commemorate our nations tragedy and honor the families and the victims of 9-11. The flag signed by President Bush is on display at Cheney University, Cheney, PA.

Kristy is on tour of all fifty state capitols and all American Territories flying a Mental Health Flag, which she designed and hand painted, to bring awareness to Mental Health Issues. The flag tour is spearheaded by the National Lieutenant Governors Association to focus positive attention on mental health, help erase stigma and dispel the myths associated with mental illness. Kristy was chosen for this project both because of her artistic ability and her own personal victory in her struggle with bipolar disorder.

A multitalented artist, Kristy works in acrylic, watercolor, pointillism, charcoal & scratchboard. For a future exhibit, Kristy has carving a totem pole that depicts the history of her American Indian heritage, which will be displayed at the UN in May of 2004 as part of the Totem Rhythms Exhibit. The totem pole is on exhibit at the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock, Arkansas from December 15, 2003 through April 15, 2004. To read more about the totem pole, CLICK HERE. Kristy exhibits and sells her work to a large audience. Corporations and individuals throughout the United States have acquired pieces of Kristy's artwork to enhance their collections. Stories on Kristy's artwork have appeared in the Arkansas Democrat/Gazette, At Home In Arkansas, Soirée, 43 TV shows nationwide and countless other magazines and newspapers.

Kristy recently bought a home in the beautiful Ozark hills of Salem, AR, which she has remodeled and decorated in shades of burgundy and purple. Her home, like her artwork, shows her creative side, is vivid with color, peaceful and thought provoking.
