MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCACY DAY

On May 27, 2004, all mental health advocates are invited to join in the Mental Health Advocacy Day rally on the west steps of the Capitol. The theme of this year’s rally is F.A.N.S. -- Fairness, Awareness, New Hope, Success. Advocates will meet with legislators between 2 and 3 p.m. In the morning, there will be advocacy training to educate on the harms of the impending budget cuts, a picnic, and a mental health flag ceremony. Advocates may join in legislator meetings before and/or after the rally. The complete schedule is available at http://www.namicalifornia.org/webdata/homepage/mhd/mhdschedule.pdf. For more information, see the campaignformentalhealth.org web site, or contact Dena Bloomgarden (MHALA), (888) 242-2522, ext. 237 or by email at dbloomgarden@mhala.org.

At 1:30 the Mental Health Flag Ceremony: Shedding Light on Mental Health Issues will take place with a published author with bi-polar disorder and her mother who are travelling each state raising awareness of mental health issues.

MAY 17 IS ADVOCACY DAY IN SACRAMENTO!

Join thousands of other Californians who care about mental health and lobby your legislators to preserve mental health funding. Together we can:

  • Build a united front against the devastating proposed budget cuts that will result in billions of dollars in lost mental healthcare funding.
  • And build momentum for passing the initiative!

The Campaign for Mental Health is based on a commitment to fulfilling a 36-year old broken promise to provide adequate community-based care for Californians living with mental illness.

As part of our continued commitment to fulfilling this promise through the passage of the Mental Health Services Act on November 2, the Campaign is asking all campaign supporters to make Mental Health Advocacy Day a big success.

To sign up to attend Advocacy Day simply complete the form on the right side of this page (http://www.campaignformentalhealth.org/site/PageServer?pagename=calendar_advocacy_day) and click the "Submit" button.
